Online After-School Activity Database

Helping Kids and Parents Find Positive Places to Hang Out After School

A network of supportive housing service projects share their information on after-school programs with an online database

Business Situation

The client specializes in working with sponsors of supportive housing for homeless families and individuals in Minnesota. They also provide organizational development and planning services to a wide variety of non-profits, including those outside the housing field.

Technical Situation

The client maintains an Access database of events, activities and after-school programs. They want to be able to more easily share this information with organizers, children, parents and guardians and other stakeholders.

Solution

Create a website to give the client a way to efficiently manage and present their unique data in an effective and user-friendly environment. Implement a search feature with integrated Google Maps to allow parents and/or guardians to easily find events and activities based on categories, cost, age and location. Allow organizers to sign up on the site and add their own events to the system.

Google Maps Integrated Search

The event and activity search brings up a list of matching search results along with a Google map that indicates where the event or activity occurs. Clicking on the corresponding numbered icon on the map brings up the actual address of that event.

Administrative Panel

The event and activity search brings up a list of matching search results along with a Google map that indicates where the event or activity occurs. Clicking on the corresponding numbered icon on the map brings up the actual address of that event. A site contributor has access to a similar screen but only to those activities or events that they themselves have added to the system.
