Integrating Online Stores with Back-End Business Systems in Real Time
A tech-savvy education publisher puts on-demand supplies at teachers’ fingertips with downloadable products.
Business Situation
Perfection Learning Company uses a custom online store solution developed by Sierra Bravo based on the Bravo Store product line. Their solution allows real-time integration between their online store and their back-end business system. In addition to commerce of physical products, the specifications for Perfection Learning Company’s store included the ability to purchase books in electronic format for immediate download.
Perfection Learning required the feature of an administrative section of the store to manage product information and availability. Store customers also required the ability to log in to download their product again if they needed.
Technical Situation
Perfection Learning’s web storefront retrieves product information such as pricing and descriptions in real time from an AS400 system. Other information including category descriptions and other static content are maintained by administrative staff using the content management system incorporated into the store.
Downloadable purchases are reproducible items (quizzes, handouts, etc.) and as such are not currently provided with any included DRM technologies.
Solution
Sierra Bravo provided a full featured online store which allows customers to purchase both physical and downloadable goods through their website. The system integrates the downloadable products maintenance into the content management system allowing administrators to easily upload and update electronic product files. The administrative system also allows override of the available download count in the event of downloading errors.
Users of the store can add downloadable products to their shopping cart and after checking out they have access to download their products immediately.
